Dear Northside Family,

I want to thank all of you who were praying for me before and during the services Sunday. I could really feel the strength of God’s hand on me during both services. I also want to thank you for your gifts given toward Disaster Relief for Lee County. Our gifts Sunday totaled $2,110.

As we continue to pray for our fellow Alabamians in Lee County, I’m sure this financial gesture will be an encouragement to them during these days of putting their lives back together as best they can.   (Online Edition Bonus: Learn more about Alabama Disaster Relief efforts at https://sbdr.org )

I also want to take this opportunity to thank those of you who have been praying for the presidential search committee at Judson College. On Tuesday of last week our committee met in Prattville all day as we interviewed candidates for this position. At the end of the day one candidate rose to the top. Under God’s leadership, we felt led to offer the position to Dr. Mark Tew. He and his wife, Ann, exuberantly accepted our offer. He will be assuming those responsibilities on Monday, March 25. In my congratulatory text to Dr. Tew later, I invited him to come to Northside once he gets his feet on the ground and share with us on a Sunday morning.

Youth & Education

Boston Butt Sale

Our students began selling Boston Butts from Son’s Smokehouse on March 3 and the sale will end this Sunday, March 17. The butts will be $40.00 each. That is the price stipulated by Son’s. This fundraiser will help our students pay for Fuge and potentially other youth events and activities through the summer. You will receive a card that will allow you to pick up your Boston Butt any time within a three month time frame, except weekends where there is a holiday. All you have to do is call the number on the card a day ahead of when you want to pick it up. The smokehouse is open Thursday though Saturday. Thanks in advance for helping our students go to Greenville, SC, to do mission work this summer. We will also be doing some mission activities in our area throughout the summer.

Youth Rally

The next area Youth Rally will be on Wednesday, March 13 at Farmstead Baptist Church. The start time has been changed to 6:00 p.m., so we will need to leave the church by 5:30. If you are driving, meet us there by 5:50. The band Awaken, from Treveca Nazarene University in Nashville will be leading worship. We will be back to NBC by 8:00 p.m.

Anchored in Hope

This is the theme for our Youth Ministry in 2019. Hebrews 6:19 is the focal verse for this idea that as believers we are “Anchored in Hope” through Christ. We will be getting t-shirts for the group. We will make these shirts available to anyone who would like one after a design is chosen. Watch the Realm app for a picture coming soon.

Paint the Base

We will meet around 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, to clean up in the youth wing and paint The Base room. We hope to have all the preliminary work done on the lights and the ceiling so that painting will finish it off. If you are staying in town during Spring Break, make it a point to come and help out.

Our adult choir will be presenting the worship musical “My Easter Story” on Sunday evening, April 14. The choir has been planning and preparing for many weeks already. In the coming weeks, you may see some vehicles in our parking lot on Monday nights as our band spends some time together preparing with rehearsals.

How are you preparing for Easter? You might be thinking “Wait. What?!? Am I supposed to do something to prepare for the Easter musical?” Maybe there’s nothing you need to be doing for the musical specifically, but I think there is something we all should be doing to prepare for Easter. We should all be praying for the person we plan to invite to worship with us on Easter Sunday. Of course, you can also invite them to come with you to the musical and the Sundays between now and then too. I’ve often heard it said that we should talk to God about our friends before we talk to our friends about God. If you plan to invite someone to worship on Easter, talk to God about him or her first. He may just prepare his or her heart to say yes to your invitation.

The church currently has a need for a paid substitute child care worker. This person will serve occasionally as back-up to care for children of adult choir members during Wednesday evening practices. Members at least 16 years of age may apply. If you are interested, please go by the church office to get more details and complete a brief application. Thank You! - Personnel Committee
